Image Credit:zoological research       പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം സർവേ നടത്തുകയായിരുന്നു ബോംബെ നാച്ചുറൽ ഹിസ്റ്ററി സൊസൈറ്റിയിലെ ഗവേഷകർ. അപ്പോഴാണ് അവരുടെ ശ്രദ്ധ ഒരു പുതിയ ഇനം പല്ലിയിൽ ചെന്നു പതിച്ചത്. ഗവേഷകർ പിടിക്കാൻ നോക്കിയപ്പോഴൊക്കെ പല്ലി പാറക്കെട്ടുകളിൽ നിന്നു പാറക്കെട്ടുകളിലേക്ക് ഒരു കരാട്ടെ അഭ്യാസിയുടെ മെയ് വഴക്കത്തോടെ ചാടിമറഞ്ഞു. പിടിക്കാനെത്തിയവർ ഇളിഭ്യരായി. വീണ്ടും പിടികൂടാൻ ശ്രമിക്കവെ ഇതു ചാടി ചെറിയ ദ്വാരങ്ങളിൽ ഒളിച്ച് പിടിയിൽ നിന്നു രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. ചൈനീസ് സിനിമാതാരവും ആയോധനകലയിലെ അഗ്രഗണ്യനുമായ ജാക്കിച്ചാനെ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന സ്റ്റണ്ടുകൾ നടത്തുന്ന ഈ പല്ലിക്കുട്ടന് ജാക്കിച്ചാന്റെ പേരിൽ തന്നെ ഗവേഷകർ നാമകരണം നടത്തി. നെമാസ്പിസ് ജാക്കി എന്നു ശാസ്ത്രനാമവും ജാക്കീസ് ഡേ ഗെക്കോ എന്നു പൊതുനാമവും. ജാക്കി ഉൾപ്പെടെ 12 പുതിയ ഇനം മലമ്പല്ലികളെയാണ് ഗവേഷകർ പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ നിന്നു കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരങ്ങൾ സൂവോളജിക്കൽ റിസർച് എന്ന ജേണലിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. ഇത്തരത്തിൽ ജനപ്രിയമായ പേരുകൾ പുതുതായി കണ്ടെത്തുന്ന ജന്തുവിഭാഗങ്ങൾക്കു നൽകുന്നത് അവയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അവബോധം കൂട്ടുമെന...
